The Moment I Realized I Was A Corporate Robot

  • I want to tell you about the moment I realized I was a corporate robot…

The moment I realized I needed to make a drastic change, that led to my current spiritual career path, as the founder of Meditation Magazine and Meditation University.

I was the COO of a Real Estate Tech startup.

We were building a “revolutionary app,” for commercial real estate.

I was interviewing a coder to join our dev team. I asked questions. He answered robotically.

His face looked checked out, like he didn’t really want to be there.

Like he wasn’t even there with me in that moment.

Like this wasn’t where he was meant to be.

A feeling of disgust arose in my stomach.

I thought I was disgusted with this coder, but then I realized…

    I was disgusted with myself.

    I realized…

I was asking my questions robotically as well.

I didn’t really want to be there either.

This wasn’t where I was meant to be.

    Here we sat, two robots,

Facing each other across the shining mahogany.

Our minds and hearts worlds apart, separated by an expanse of apathy,

But united in our shared unconsciousness

Of BEING ALIVE ON A PLANET, in a Universe.

In that moment, I woke up.

I looked around and saw other robots, typing away at their computers,

Faces blank and unenthusiastic, working on things they didn’t really care about,

Chained to their paychecks, sacrificing the days of their lives,

    Working to sustain expensive lifestyles,

Because that’s how they were told they were supposed to live.

    In that moment, I realized:

I couldn’t stay in this job.

I couldn’t continue following this path,

    For who-knows-how-many-years into the future.

I knew in my gut that I shouldn’t spend my life working on something I didn’t care about,

Building something that only rich people would use,

Helping people who didn’t really need help.

I was born on this planet to LIVE ON THIS PLANET,

Not to stare at a screen in an office under florescent lights,

But to marvel at the sun setting over the sea.

I was born to eat meals with my loved ones,

Not to shovel food into my mouth as I worked at my desk.

    I knew in that moment:

I needed to forge my own path,

To work on something that I personally cared about,

To build something that I was truly proud of,

To actually make the world a better place,

To help people that really needed my help.

For me, it had to be meditation.

Meditation is the core of my life.

Meditation lifted me out of anxiety & depression in college.

It keeps me grounded in reality, not lost in thoughts.

It helps me stay focused on my priorities and live a happy life.

It connects me with the core of Existence.

It reminds me that I am ALIVE,

So I can feel GRATEFUL for every moment.

So I don’t miss my life in the chaos of work.

So I don’t lose my soul in the corporate haze.

That’s when I started Meditation Magazine,

A project that allowed me to transition from corporate robot to meditation professional.

Since then, I’ve traveled the world interviewing gurus,

Created meditation courses that have helped over 200,000 people,

Published many magazines and books about meditation,

    And founded Meditation University,

To help others find their own authentic paths

    As meditation professionals as well.
