UN Declares Dec 21 “World Meditation Day.” Here’s How To Join.

World Meditation Day
  • Advertisment

  • It’s official! The United Nations has declared December 21 (tomorrow!) to be World Meditation Day πŸŽ‰

World Meditation Day is not just another holiday to mark on our calendars… it’s a massive, institutional, global acknowledgment from world leaders, of the power of meditation to help bring peace in this world πŸ™ŒΒ

Meditation isn’t just about personal peace. It’s also about collective peace.

When we bring peace into the world within us, we also bring peace into the world around us.

Perhaps this day was chosen now, at this moment in history, because global leaders understand that the world needs it more than ever.

Who did this? Who made this aΒ thing?

The proposal for World Meditation Day was introduced by the tiny nation of Liechtenstein, and was co-sponsored by countries like India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Mexico.

Why did they choose December 21st for World Meditation Day?

The choice of the Winter Solstice as the date for this beautiful new holiday feels significant to many of us in the meditation world β€” the darkest day of the year, the longest night, inviting us to turn inward to find the light ✨

How to celebrate World Meditation Day

One of the most exciting events tomorrow is a keynote speech by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (whom we interviewed for our recent Peace Issue of Meditation Magazine).

Gurudev will be speaking at the UN headquarters in New York City, discussing meditation’s role in creating a more peaceful world. After the talk, Gurudev will lead a live global meditation session, at 9:30am Eastern Time (6:30am Pacific, 8:00pm Indian Time)

If you’re here in the US, and Gurudev’s meditation is a bit early for you (it’s a Saturday, after all), we’d love for you to join us for a special Instagram Live meditation tomorrow at noon Eastern Time (9 a.m. Pacific) πŸ˜ƒ

How to join Meditation Magazine’s live meditation event

Make sure to follow us at instagram.com/meditationmag, and join us on our page (@meditationmag) tomorrow at noon Eastern, so that we can sit together, breathe together, and spread ripples of peace in this chaotic, stressful world.

Thank you for celebrating this beautiful new holiday with us here at Meditation Magazine.

Let’s meditate for ourselves, for each other, and for a more peaceful, happy, and loving world ❀️

May all beings be happy and free πŸ™
