Through him, I have slowly come to understand that I am not my body\u2026 and, therefore, that\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrisbutlerspeaks.org\/quotes\/sense-pleasure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">endeavors for sense gratification<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will only bring temporary happiness. My true essence is spirit soul. \u00a0As a spirit soul \u2014 part and parcel of God \u2014 I know that true and lasting happiness comes from having a connection with God. The simplest way to do this is by hearing and saying the Holy Names of God through techniques like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qyzFDWOTIyk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gauranga breathing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and japa meditation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.meditationmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/japa-meditation-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-709\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meditationmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/japa-meditation-1.jpg\" alt=\"japa meditation\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What is Japa Meditation?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mantra meditation is the personal chanting of transcendental mantras. \u00a0These mantras, which are Holy Names of God, have the ability to relieve your mind from the stresses of this world and help you to focus on God. \u00a0One mantra that I learned and say each day is \u201cGopala Govinda Rama Madana Mohana.\u201d \u00a0By <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/9JYc6ZhfLXE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">saying this mantra<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out loud, you engage your senses of speech and hearing, which then cause your mind to focus on the mantra. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Japa meditation takes mantra meditation one step further by introducing <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/yogabasics.com\/japamalabeads\/how-to-use-a-mala\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">beads<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0The use of beads incorporates the sense of touch to our meditation. According to the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scienceofidentityfoundation.com\/wisdom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vedic teachings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the more senses you involve in meditation, the more potent the effects of the mantras become. \u00a0In addition, chanting on beads makes use of our inherent desire to touch or fiddle with something, and turns that tendency into something spiritual. \u00a0As we touch each bead, we say the mantra out loud. \u201cGopala Govinda Rama Madana Mohana.\u201d \u00a0Then you continue to the next bead and repeat the mantra. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you continue to do japa meditation, you\u2019ll notice that your mind begins to focus on the mantras. Other worries or <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/news.harvard.edu\/gazette\/story\/2011\/01\/eight-weeks-to-a-better-brain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">concerns fade<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> away. This is the purifying power of these mantras; they help you become connected to God and forget the troubles and problems of this world. \u00a0When first beginning japa meditation, don\u2019t worry about the number of mantras that you are chanting. Rather, it is the quality and focus of each mantra that is the most beneficial. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SXcMQcJUGtA?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>When to Practice Japa Meditation<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is recommended that one should perform japa meditation when you first arise from sleep in the morning and also before one goes to sleep at night. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Morning<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you first wake up, your mind is the least cluttered it will be all day. \u00a0Doing japa first thing in the morning allows one to focus more on the meditation without the thoughts of what they need to accomplish that day interrupting so much. \u00a0Morning japa also ensures that no matter how busy or crazy your day becomes, you know that you were able to spend some time focusing on God. \u00a0Morning meditation is a good way to transcendentally kick start your day, making you feel more positive and happy. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Evening<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s kind of the opposite story at night. \u00a0You\u2019ve likely completed a day where you weren\u2019t able to focus all <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ndradio.tv\/sacred-sounds-benefits\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your time on mantras<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or God. \u00a0In fact you may have been bombarded by things you need to accomplish, or worries and stresses throughout the day. \u00a0This is why japa meditation at night or before bed is important. \u00a0It allows you to connect back up with God and leave your worries behind. \u00a0You\u2019ll clear your mind of all that clutter and allow it to focus on God while you sleep, which will allow you to rest peacefully and wake up energized, looking forward to your morning japa meditation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morning and night, however, are not the only times when one can do japa meditation. \u00a0Any time things start to pile up, taking a 5 \u2013 10 minute break to either sit quietly or walk and do japa are good ways to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BTFRtH8g3ig\/?taken-by=scienceofidentity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reconnect yourself<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with God and put yourself in the right state of mind to tackle your daily tasks. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Try it Yourself!<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I hope you will give mantra and japa meditation a try. \u00a0The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HyaLfSun3nM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holy Names of God<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are powerful and have a purifying effect on one\u2019s consciousness.
